Born 12 September 1997 in Spokane, Washington, Sydney Bernice Sweeney grew up in a rural lakeside home in the Idaho panhandle — in her family for five generations. Her mother Lisa is a former criminal defence lawyer; her father Steven works in hospitality; her brother Trent later joined the U.S. Air Force.
At twelve, after auditioning as an extra in a film shooting nearby, she pitched her parents a five-year business plan to be allowed to act. It worked. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was 13; she graduated valedictorian of her school and briefly studied entrepreneurship at UCLA.
Off set, she trained in grappling and kickboxing as a teenager — often the only girl in the dojo — and restored a 1969 Ford Bronco with her own hands, documenting the work as @syds_garage. Her dog Tank keeps her grounded.
2018 brought the triple breakthrough — Everything Sucks!, The Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects — then Euphoria and The White Lotus, earning two Emmy nominations in 2022. Instead of waiting for roles, she built her own: producing through Fifty-Fifty Films and headlining hits like Anyone But You and The Housemaid.
The Journey
More Than an Actress
The Fighter
Teenage grappling and kickboxing at Gokor Hayastan — often the only girl in the dojo. At 18 she won her first tournament against men a weight class above.
The Mechanic
Restored a 1969 Ford Bronco and a 1965 Mustang with her own hands (@syds_garage) — and later designed a custom 2024 Mustang with Ford.
Tank
Her dog, and the centre of her downtime: walks, dog parks, and properly switching off.
In her own lane: Sydney confirmed to The Times in May 2025 that she is single, having split from businessman Jonathan Davino, to whom she had been engaged since 2022. Everything else, she lets the work speak.
